PUMP REPAIRS

Our Pump “Wet testing” facility in our East Tamaki Workshop

Spa pool pump repairs
Initial Inspection

We do a visual inspection, then try and obtain a little pump history from the customer, if a repair looks economically viable we will create a job for this unit.

Motor Tests

We check the motor electrical and mechanical characteristics. The motor is the most expensive part of the pool pump. We work to Industry values and Standards

Strip down and inspect

We inspect and list, then cost what needs replacing, a quotation is then submitted for approval, usually by email.

Some FAQ’s we get regarding Pool or Spa pump repairs

What is the most expensive component on a pool pump?

That would be the electric motor usually

When is it not economically viable to repair a pool pump?

When the repair cost starts to get past 50% of the value of a new replacement pump

What are the most common problems found with pool pumps?

Motor capacitors, mechanical seals, motor bearings, pump lids, O rings and corrosion – also not forgetting the “Run Dry” scenario and air ingress.

What is the life expectancy of a middle to high end priced pool pump?

This varies from brand to brand. You should get in excess of 5 years of trouble free operation if you carry out a little preventative maintenance every 6 months or so. Basic checks are required. In the perfect world, every pump should be housed in a dry ventilated weatherproof enclosure. Exposure to the elements and or moisture results in Corrosion ageing your motor/pump external metal components prematurely. Most Wooden boxes located outside that house pool equipment are not totally weatherproof. This is 1 of the biggest problems a new pool pump faces in its life. On occasion it nearly impossible to dismantle a pump due to holding bolts fused and corroded very badly. Remember! … you buy Cheap, you get Cheap!!
